When You Keep Meeting Your Heroes Across The Globe- Passover 2012 (Lima, Peru)

When You Keep Meeting Your Heroes Across The Globe- Passover 2012 (Lima, Peru)

We’re so lucky. The Gods are smiling upon us. They do that a lot these passed few years. Yeah, the Gods are definitely paying us back, with interest, on some unearthly good Karma. We’re thrilled to cash in our chips. THANK YOU KINDLY STAR-DUST CREATORS! We’ll bask in the good stuff! So, we are at Modi and Anat Ephraim’s house. Have you ever told you our love story? I think I’ll have to ask Modi for permission how much I can say about the one family that probably had the most influence on almost every major parenting/family decision we’ve ever made. He’s important now, with full-time guards (when we saw him in Huanchaco, he had a convoy, dear God) and he wears suits that don’t wrinkle. When we knew him, back then, he was in the hood. So, we still treat him like a worthless nobody, but you’ve gotta be careful with the diplomatic sorts. So, for now, until I get permission in three copies with a few backup...

New Friends, New Adventure: Dum, Dum, Dum…. To The Post Office With Enrique and Jorge (Lima, Peru)

New Friends, New Adventure: Dum, Dum, Dum…. To The Post Office With Enrique and Jorge (Lima, Peru)

This is so seemingly meaningless and mundane, but no. We’re on an adventure to unknown territories, and oh my God people lie by the way… Every person we met told us, “Oh, just two more blocks,” “Just around that corner” or “Just five minutes more.” They lied! Oh my God, they lied. And I bet they took great pleasure in doing so. And it was such a blazing HOT day! But, the Gods again smile upon us so kindly for we had with us ENRIQUE AND JORGE who were nothing less than magical angels. They were just hanging out in the hostel, bored, and we said, innocently, “Wanna come send this suitcase to the post office with us?” “Sure, why not!”And the adventure begins….   And they picked up the kids, made them laugh, played games with us the entire way, complained about the unbearable heat, and again, picked up the kids when the extremely hot sun coupled with the ‘two blocks more’ lie got too much for them....

Chemically-Enhanced Food, and Time, for Your Birthday Son- Bembos;Lima, Peru

Chemically-Enhanced Food, and Time, for Your Birthday Son- Bembos;Lima, Peru

I know, I know. I’m sorry for being out of order. For those of you who actually follow our adventures (bakker) and appreciate outrageous things like chronological order, it’s just too stiffing for me. You see, we’re now entering month 16 of family world travel and God, I have mountains of footage to share with you. I recorded almost every day something that i wanted to vlog about but… (here’s the catch) there were weeks on end that I didn’t want to be on the computer (how cool is that) and months that I didn’t have computer or internet access (even cooler) and days when i just sat around and played guitar or hiked with my kids or got really sad and lonely, and therefore, didn’t do my ‘online’ work. And so, there will two years + of vlogging adventures to share that may take another two years + to get out. So, sit back and know that part of this adventure is slowly, slowly finding gems from...

Magical Sunset Picnic with Friends- Lima, Peru

Magical Sunset Picnic with Friends- Lima, Peru

So many magic moments that I feel so blessed to get to capture. I know they happened back home too, but, for some reason (one being, that I don’t have to work or think about money during every waking hour) I notice them more on the road. I notice the sunsets (for my mind is not typically fogged up by twenty other things to do or worry about); I talk to people (cuz I don’t have to hurry off to the next thing to do); and I notice details (like the taste of the tomato, the mother holding hands with her down syndrome daughter, the words people chose to use). Sometimes, you just want to push pause, you want that moment, that afternoon to stay just as it is; still, never fleeting. And sometimes, when you are in that moment, you spend too much energy worrying that it may just about be over. So, here’s a moment, and here’s me doing my best to be just in that moment....

Machu Picchu- The Legend We Missed- Life on the Road Decisions, Peru

Machu Picchu- The Legend We Missed- Life on the Road Decisions, Peru

Machu Picchu is one of those legendary fairy tales you can’t miss. You walk up that mountain, passed the clouds and walk into a world long gone, yet so much alive in spirit. We had heard of Machu Picchu and listened to countless travelers speak of it’s magic and how they remain in awe of it’s very aura. While the kids and I stayed in Lima, Peru in Nomade Backpacker’s Hostel we sighed, and yes, we missed it. Let me show you something so cool about this living history lesson and tell you why we just missed out on it. Stairs Go Up and Down Yeah, you knew that. And so do opportunities, and life, and relationships, and our money, and our moods. So, Machu Picchu will have to wait for us. We can’t have it all. We can’t. We can literally travel for the next eighty years and we just won’t see it all, do it all. Now that we are living in the Philippines (and loving life...

The Best Video About Peru

The Best Video About Peru

After traveling for a year in Latin America, you cannot forget the great moments we had experience there no matter how much time passes.  I had leaned to appreciate what we had in South America, for example, only after arriving to South East Asia.  In south America, we were able to communicate to the local on a deep level and by that, to reach great relationships. However, in SE Asia, our deepest converse goes to “Thank you” and “How much is it?”. It was quite difficult to have this radical cultural change. So when I viewed the video clip below about Peru, my heart was filled with joy and nostalgia. I recalled all the great moments we had in Peru, especially in Huhanchaco, Lima, and Cusco. How beautiful! Feel free to view some of the post we wrote about traveling in Peru but regardless, click on this touching video clip. How Cheap Can I Sleep? Too Much Information- What You Never Wanted to Know Just A Butt In The...
