Malaysian Dialects, Culture, History, AND Color-blindness- Comprehensive, Awesome Interview- Pillows and Toast Hostel, Singapore

Malaysian Dialects, Culture, History, AND Color-blindness- Comprehensive, Awesome Interview- Pillows and Toast Hostel, Singapore

Yeah, yeah, I’m rubbing elbows with the big guys, and yes, I could possibly still find in the deepest crevices of my heart, the metta (loving kindness) to still associate with the little people like you. *cough* Our stay in Singapore was blessed by so much love and joy. You can see it in Human Kindness and Humility,  All A Weary Traveler Needs, and The Ming Behind The Making of The Movie. And now, we bring to you one of those amazing video interviews that teach us about humanity, a people, their history and culture, and show us two of their finest men. We totally fell in love with this pair, and the staff of loving people they surrounded themselves with. Did you know that Singapore, like Israel, has a mandatory military? I did not. So much I got from one interview, even though, in all honesty, the behind-the-scenes bit you don’t see is that both were dying to finish with me already so that they could go play...

Heroes, Angels, and Friends: Georgina and Ed- Thank God for Little Gifts- Singapore

Heroes, Angels, and Friends: Georgina and Ed- Thank God for Little Gifts- Singapore

You know sometimes it’s so clear that God is smiling down on you. Sometimes, it’s a bit harder to see. Sometimes, we get slapped in the face with realities we didn’t ask for, and then, then, then that hero/angel/friend walks in and you can take a deep breath and sigh and know, yes, you just know, that everything is exactly the way it was meant to be. You get this feeling deep inside that maybe, just maybe, this tough situation unfolded before you as a personal invitation for that hero/angel/friend to swoop down and be there for you. To love you when you needed it precisely just then. So, thank you for the hiccups that led us to meeting, befriending, and falling in love with Ed and Georgina. I’d love to share with you a few snapshots of our dear bubbly friends and tell you how we’ve met and how much we’d love to see them again. They are both too adorable for words, especially considering that I had...

Cheese- Hysterical Videos for Life on the Road Good Times- Pillows and Toast, Singapore

We love laughing. OK, so everyone does. That opening line was about as insightful as saying, “I personally enjoy breathing.” OK, got it. Listen, I did make that mistake back in ’98. Yeah, it happens to the best of us. And now, at nearly midnight, with my girls are still awake, does that make me a bad parent or a cool chilling out sport? Sorry, off topic. E-hem. So, we’ve been lucky in attracting to us real fun-loving people. Kobi adores entertaining a crowd, telling jokes, and we both love the stage (me- the bigger the better, Kobi- in small, intimate circles). And so it would make sense that we get into fun-loving situations with all sorts of fun-loving sort of people. We now have four ‘Cheese’ videos: two from The Led Zephyr in Cambodia (here’s the original one), this one at Pillows and Toast in Singapore, and the last at BackHome Hostel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We appreciate Pillows and Toast accommodations for our family. They went far...

Back Stage Hysterical Fun With Strait Groove Band from Singapore- Backhome Hostel, KL, Malaysia

Back Stage Hysterical Fun With Strait Groove Band from Singapore- Backhome Hostel, KL, Malaysia

Sometimes, we cry and tell you how miserable we are and how we try to crawl out of it. Sometimes, we admit big mistakes with high ticket prices and bow to learning. Sometimes, we try hard not to judge people making the choices are right for them. Sometimes, we’re having unreal crazy adventures and screaming in foam fights. Sometimes, we’re sharing all the irresponsible, stupid stuff we’ve done that could have killed us. Sometimes, we’re really confused and we’re missing home. And sometimes, we’re jamming with artists and cool people across the globe. Meet Srait Groove and get ready to chill and laugh. This short video oddly recorded on the kitchen table at Backhome Hostel (it was a challenge to get us all to fit into the screen) shows how awesome they are. We love the best hostel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Backhome Hostel, who hosted us for A MONTH, which we will never forget! They became our family, and rightfully so, for they are a family of staff that...

The Ming Behind The Making of The Movie Country #11- Pillows and Toast Heritage Hostel, Singapore

The Ming Behind The Making of The Movie Country #11- Pillows and Toast Heritage Hostel, Singapore

So, you may have seen our Country #11 video. It was one cool movie full of positive energy and love. But did you know that while I sat in the a/c working the computer, that Ming ran around in the streets with my three angels and Daniel to get most of the footage? Yeah, no one knew, until now. They went from store to store asking people to say ‘country eleven.’ They got shooed out of a couple of stores and got yelled at once (which Solai later explained to me is where Ming explained to them that not all Singaporeans are so nice). But, most of the time, they were hugged, cuddled, pet, and fed by perfectly beautiful strangers in the street. Following are some of the 11 pictures that didn’t make the final cut into the movie. Again, know that it’s Ming behind the ingenuity and amazing energy of this video, and a lot of other things like redeeming mom from eating all the chocolate she brought...

Life on the Road Education is Cool Cuz Someone Else Is Doing It- Beary Best Hostel, Singapore

We’ve been to so many really amazing (and really disgusting) places around the world. Too many to accurately tell you about. But, a few of those places were just so cool that they just deserve to be spoken of. In Singapore, we got to chill in two different hostels, one right down the street from the other. They were both populated with nice staff, great vibes, and really cool atmosphere. And so, we wanted to show you a little behind-the-scenes peek at Beary Best Hostel in Singapore and how the kids love learning when it’s not with Mama and Papa Bear. Aren’t the colors of this place unreal? And it’s all IKEA, the entire place, everything, but everything is IKEA. God, I love that! There are three in the Beary Hostel chain. Ready for how cute this is about to be? Beary Nice Hostel Beary Good Hostel Beary Best Hostel We were hosted at Beary Best, and loved it. Thank you Beary Best! We love you, and miss you....

A Cozy Place, A Warm Welcome, A Smile- All A Weary Traveler Needs- Pillows and Toast Hostel, Singapore

A Cozy Place, A Warm Welcome, A Smile- All A Weary Traveler Needs- Pillows and Toast Hostel, Singapore

We’re been around. Yeah. That’s a nice way to say it. And every single time we go to a new place, I put up all of my barriers and say, “This time, love, don’t fall in love,” and it doesn’t work, not even a little bit. Another great example of that is here at Pillows and Toast Hostel in Singapore. When they invited us to stay with them, we were touched. But no one said they’d invite us back and beg us to stay double than we agreed upon, that Ming would run in the streets making movies with them, that they would play Monopoly with them, that their staff would print out Taylor Swift lyrics and sing them with the kids all day, and that they would allow the kids to overrun the hostel with art activities, most of which the staff themselves brought the kids from home to do. . ‘Hostel’ is simply a major misnomer. Pillows and Toast is a community of loving people. It is...
