Snapshots from Our Heart of Hearts Home- BackHome Hostel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Snapshots from Our Heart of Hearts Home- BackHome Hostel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I think it was before flood number two but after flood number one and it’s just the kind of thing I wanted to remember on Today. Today, I’m living my domesticated life here on a mountain-side in Israel. Today, I coached a gorgeous woman who is about to set off on their family’s world travel adventure and asked really powerful questions like, “What if my son blames me later for all that he missed back home?” Today, I sit with purring Kitty Cat and feel grateful that Kobi and I are figuring out how to live without the 9-to-5 lifestyle. Today, I’m so terribly grateful for the normal shifts and struggles and joys of raising three teenagers in a normal life. And so, in honor of today being just as it is; in honor of the November skies thickening and preparing themselves for all sorts of winter rains; in honor our life here at home, I wanted to remember BackHome- our truest home in Kuala Lumpur for 35 whole...

Unfiltered, Unreal Sunset- Casa Del Mar, Langkawi, Malaysia- Family Travel Blog Treats

Unfiltered, Unreal Sunset- Casa Del Mar, Langkawi, Malaysia- Family Travel Blog Treats

Deep sigh. (Of gratitude, not sadness.) These were one of those oh-my-God-I-can’t-believe-we-got-to-be-there-and-do-that moments. It was unreal gorgeous! The Casa Del Mar Hotel which we had heard about for months, that quiet, romantic beach and it’s sunset, the food, the staff, the hotel manager whom we fell madly in love with. Langkawi was a dream and Casa Del Mar was 2000% a dream come true. I sometimes try to say in too many words what cannot be contained by the written letter nor the spoken tongue. I would like to show you a sunset video I did while at Casa Del Mar, and another three videos, two really funny, one really peaceful capturing sunsets around the world. There is deep magic in the sunset, and deep appreciation for having so much time to really be in them.  So many beautiful sunsets around the world but the Langkawi one. Wait. I know, but, no, and…. But, No, And “But” doesn’t fit because truly each one has been so uniquely differently and unreal. The colors,...

16 Documented Reasons to Delve into your Nature-Loving, Adventure Spirit in Malaysia-Nomad Adventures Earth Camp [Videos that Rock]

16 Documented Reasons to Delve into your Nature-Loving, Adventure Spirit in Malaysia-Nomad Adventures Earth Camp [Videos that Rock]

God, were we unprepared. We had every best intention to fall in love with this unreal place, to enjoy it’s connectedness to Mother Earth, and to enjoy the zip line, the omega, the caving, the white river rafting, and the unreal staff of Nomad Adventures, and we did, we did, we did, but we were just very lost and tired during this point of our adventures, as we’ve been so many other times on the road, and off. So all of our videos reflect how cool the place is and how much going to Earth Camp with kids is an unreal endless adventure that you cannot ever, ever forget (we are eternally grateful for being invited to participate in it all) and still, we were just tired and a bit overwhelmed with our lives, which is also partially portrayed between the lines. 🙂 And why now? Cuz we’re about to hit the road again and we look forward and backwards in spiral, joyful waves and love everything we experienced,...

Kobi’s Solo Travel – Going Back to Kuala Lumpur

Kobi’s Solo Travel – Going Back to Kuala Lumpur

So the long family trip was over, but really over and long behind us and here we are back to the normal day-to-day life where the kids are back to school and we are back to the usual errands. But still, we kept the urge of traveling. So on April 1st, I, Kobi, packed my bags and left for a lone-ranger journey in Asia, visiting familiar and new places. In order to save some money on this trip, as we did for the three and half years on the family journey, I booked a flight to Bangkok via Amman, Jordan.  If was aware of how long and frustrating the travel all the way to Siem Reap would be, I probably do it differently.  The travel started leaving home in Kiryat Shemona (leaving Gabi to be a single mom for few weeks) on 5:00 am and arriving to Siem Reap the next day 3:30 PM. The connection times were long in each airport and I did not have the condition to sleep....

Why Kaula Lumpur Got Perfectly Delicious & Deliciously Perfect- Concorde Inn KLIA, Malaysia [Photo Essay]- Part One

Why Kaula Lumpur Got Perfectly Delicious & Deliciously Perfect- Concorde Inn KLIA, Malaysia [Photo Essay]- Part One

We adore Kuala Lumpur. Everything about her is lovely. Everything! For a family who spent so much time in jungles, on exotic islands, and in very crammed and budget shacks, living in KL was a pure ray of modern light. Of course, when we landed in KL on March 6, 2013, we assumed it would be a quick spot. Come on, we’re Jews in a Muslim country. Clearly, ‘the enemy’ wouldn’t be gracious. Clearly, we’d get our ten minutes of fame as the bodies of five Israelis found slain by the hand of my Islamic fanatic. We hate missionaries too, right? Clearly, we’d land, see we didn’t fit in, and move on. And yet, we lived in Malaysia for 98 days and in Kuala Lumpur for almost half of that time. We relished the Hari Raya Festival, fell in love with the people and ate, did some wild rapids with Nomad Adventure, laughed, and loved adventures, food, and people we never imagined our hearts would embrace with such grace....

The Nomadic Family Arrives to Back Home Hostel – Kuala Lumpur

The Nomadic Family Arrives to Back Home Hostel – Kuala Lumpur

There are so many reasons to travel the world, so many places that, at the threshold, like life, we had no idea how significant this next doorway would be in our lives. We are forever, forever grateful to Backhome Hostel and the home they gave us, the love, the friendships, the opportunity to be a part of the most hip, vibrant, loving, warm backpacker community we have yet, as a family or as individuals, to experience anywhere else on the globe. That, friends, says buckos. This video was our introduction, arriving, moving in, settling down into what would become our haven, our hub in Malaysia, and our home for 35 nights. A few more entries sharing Backhome’s Awesomeness include: – Meeting the all-cool Straight Groove from Singapore (really funny, on-the-table video) – Craziest Video in the World (because boredom and a computer room are a dangerous combination) – Tension Pre-Rigged Malaysian Elections (some serious stuff, including bloggers being arrested) – Video and really passionate Photos from the Streets on...
