Dahnya’s Bat Mitzvah- I Hope You Dance- Nomadic Family World Travel Returns Home- Kiryat Shemona, Israel

Dahnya’s Bat Mitzvah- I Hope You Dance- Nomadic Family World Travel Returns Home- Kiryat Shemona, Israel

Finally, I can catch my breath and share what a joy celebrating for Dahnya was. It was everything she hoped and all that our princess deserved. We were surrounded by those who love us most, dear old friends from our previous life eons before we left Israel, precious and dear family whom embrace us in ever-love and laughter, and the chance to do right by Dahnya and make this day that she’d been planning for years (literally!) exactly as she wished it. The videos were gifts to Dahnya- one from us to uur precious reminding her the lyrics of the song we dedicated to her when she was born, but delivered with the love of family and friends across the globe. The other video is from film director and closest friend Angela (The Nomadic Family Project) as a testament of how brave and powerful and what a hero Dahnya really is. Dahnya has had one rocky return to a hostile social reality and said to me one day how she remembers her bravery...

The Nomadic Family- The Sky, Cysts, Silence, Mangled Cats & Daughter Heroes- Returning Home- Israel

The Nomadic Family- The Sky, Cysts, Silence, Mangled Cats & Daughter Heroes- Returning Home- Israel

Skies are dark, thunder booming. The kids are watching the rain as it draws nearer, and, yes, here it comes. I now hear the first large splats of water outside my bedroom door. As I’m lying here about to fall into the sweetest of naps, I realize what quiet there is within and around me. All day I’ve cleaned the house. All day, just like those days when all we did was laundry in the river in the jungles of Eucador when we lived with the indigenous tribe. Or when we lived for two months in Panagsama Beach and dove daily with Savedra Dive Center (and laughed and laughed). There we’d sit on the second-story porch and watch the rain and the mud-covered people below walk through ankle-high puddles. Mangled Felines There’s a lovely white long-haired cat with green eyes outside. Well, he used to look lovely, I’m sure. He showed up here with his purple collar over one shoulder and choking him, matted hair, and though he’s clearly...

Running to Bomb Shelter- Sirens in Kibbutz Hanita, Northern Galilee, Israel- July 12, 2014

Running to Bomb Shelter- Sirens in Kibbutz Hanita, Northern Galilee, Israel- July 12, 2014

Fuck. I was scared. We all were. Even though we had done this before in our past, this caught us all off-guard and shook us more than a little bit. Not pretty. Not fun. After 38 1/2 months on the road, sixteen countries, and knowing nothing; it’s not the homecoming we imagined. But it’s not about us and what we wanted at all. It’s about governments and agendas and stuff way over our heads, and we just gotta roll with That Which Is until this too shall pass. A few updates that led up to tonight’s bomb shelter run video and then what I caught on tape as the sirens went off and we dealt with the reality that currently just is what it is in Israel.  Friday, July 11th   Saturday, July 12th And the party begins…. Right After The Sirens- July 12th And right before going to sleep And another post (highly recommended): Israeli Family Kids Discuss War, Missile Sirens, and Peace How Badly Do You Want...

Wings and Roots- Euphoric Chatterings of Just Arriving Home- Jerusalem, Israel

Wings and Roots- Euphoric Chatterings of Just Arriving Home- Jerusalem, Israel

It is over. It is over. It is over. Or it is? Is it ever really over? Even when we die, is it over? I happen to think not. I think we continue, our souls or our energy, and our love. The love continues, transmits and transforms, morphs and mutates into something else that continues, yes, in some other form, but does not die. And so, we have arrived home, to our tribe, and damn it feels good. We thought it would be so hard; we suspected it would be some tragic end, and yet, what we found is love in more color and tears and beauty that we could have remembered. “The greatest gifts you can give your children are the roots and the wings.” – Denis Waitley Well, we’ve given them wings, dear God, they have wide-spanned, glittery-white, hugely-feathered wings that know that in any country in this world they can get along, create community, and find love. But roots? Kobi and I left the US July...
