Red Basilica Hotel & Restaurant & One Hysterical Fall- Bergama, Turkey- SmallHotels.com.tr

Red Basilica Hotel & Restaurant & One Hysterical Fall- Bergama, Turkey- SmallHotels.com.tr

All of this learning magic was made possible because of Fatih at The Red Basilica Hotel who was kind enough to host us for two nights and Izim at SmallHotels.com.tr who was insane enough to coordinate for us a 5-week tour with the Small Hotels across Turkey. We could never say thank you enough to those who believe in us enough to say, “Yes, come, child. I will invest in your dream,” and to Fatih for believing that man is man (regardless of the flag and what governments try to teach us) and that love is love (regardless of where you come from). Fatih, as a retired international basketball referee who had visited Israel many times, reignited in us a passion for sports which we converted into buying a skateboard and soccer ball in Bergama and using with great family passion. YOu can find them on Facebook here and see our arrival Facebook album here. Should you come to Bergama, we truly hope you stay at the Red Basilica Hotel with...

First Arrivals, Ayvalik Toasts, & Turkish Survivor- Macaron Konagi Otel, SmallHotels.com.tr, Ayvalik, Turkey

First Arrivals, Ayvalik Toasts, & Turkish Survivor- Macaron Konagi Otel, SmallHotels.com.tr, Ayvalik, Turkey

The sun always shines when new love wraps itself around your soul. For the third time this morning, the sweet woman here at Cumbali Konak Otel in Alacati, Turkey is adjusting the cushions of the outside sofas just so in the sun and I’m thinking how much I adore people doing things because they care. There is just so much love in the world that sometimes, sometimes, I just can’t contain it. I don’t know where to put it, but I’m so grateful that I am basking in it, for that hour, that minute, that second. So grateful. And so it was in Ayvalik that we had so many beautiful firsts. Our first breakfast at one of the tens of SmallHotels.com.tr that we had the honor to be invited to, our first Ayvalik toast (which turns out to be a huge cultural thing that we kept seeing all over Turkey, also far away from Ayvalik), and our first exposure to Turkish Survivor, which we ended up being deliriously addicted...

En Route to Pergamon Acropolis, Worldschooling & A Bit of Historty- Bergama, Turkey- Carrentals.co.uk

En Route to Pergamon Acropolis, Worldschooling & A Bit of Historty- Bergama, Turkey- Carrentals.co.uk

As a family, we’ve learned that we know nothing, about international dance parties, and learned tons by becoming a local. And, for our children, we’re totally into learning out of passion and desire, not for grades. We’re also into learning for the sake of knowledge, for the sake of knowing more, and not for any external praise, including comparative success to others. That’s why we helped found the school that we did in Kibbutz Amir in Northern Israel and that’s why we’re always happy when we find opportunities on the road to educate through passion. Sometimes those opportunities are in the form of a school or local holiday traditions like Diwali in India that we are blessed enough to join. Other times it is in the form of learning how to be a real decent human being as we bask in the light of someone so different than us, who forced our son to make very unmanly choices and be all the better for it. And occassionally, we get to...
