After 18 Months in Asia- Three Oddities of the West & My Little Holiday- Houston, Texas

After 18 Months in Asia- Three Oddities of the West & My Little Holiday- Houston, Texas

“Are you doing the no deodorant Indian thing?” “How about this great perfume?” as she sprays my neck. “Toilet paper goes in the toilet.” “Good God, girl, where the hell are your shoes?” I am shocked how much I don’t fit in, how I’ve changed after eighteen months in Asia, and how funny it is not to know some social norms that I used to live by. Are you ready for three oddities of the Western world? I’m on a holiday alone in Houston, Texas and it’s really raw.  The US in Twelve-Minutes We loved our time as a family in the US, and adored our time in the RV! We’re still drooling over the idea of a USA holidays family adventure again. Kobi made a great video that I thought I could just stick in here before I tell you the odd stuff that I still can’t totally get. It’s a great video Kobi! (The post Twelve Minutes has great pics too!) Three Oddities of the Western World...

You Ask, We Answer: Five Tidbits of Family Travel Blog Life From the Hood- Goa, India

You Ask, We Answer: Five Tidbits of Family Travel Blog Life From the Hood- Goa, India

So, I’ve become a rather unsocial creature. I enjoy my online friends so much because I love interacting with people who really get my frequency (which is less and less as the years go by). There are people who reply to the blog posts, comment on Facebook, and just let me know “Gabi, I’m here for you, witnessing your life with you. And, with the acne and the hiccups, I love you.” That’s really important to me. And so, I’ve gotten ‘from the hood’ some great questions about family travel life on the road, and I thought to me-self, “Self, share some of insider tidbits of your life with people who care and are sincerely curious. Share,” yes, so I will. The following are five little tidbits about our family travel blog life. These tidbits include what we appreciate, what we do, how we organize our money, why we choose Goa, India as home for the next six months, and how’s our health going. So, let’s dance, shall we?...

Cheese- Hysterical Videos for Life on the Road Good Times- Pillows and Toast, Singapore

We love laughing. OK, so everyone does. That opening line was about as insightful as saying, “I personally enjoy breathing.” OK, got it. Listen, I did make that mistake back in ’98. Yeah, it happens to the best of us. And now, at nearly midnight, with my girls are still awake, does that make me a bad parent or a cool chilling out sport? Sorry, off topic. E-hem. So, we’ve been lucky in attracting to us real fun-loving people. Kobi adores entertaining a crowd, telling jokes, and we both love the stage (me- the bigger the better, Kobi- in small, intimate circles). And so it would make sense that we get into fun-loving situations with all sorts of fun-loving sort of people. We now have four ‘Cheese’ videos: two from The Led Zephyr in Cambodia (here’s the original one), this one at Pillows and Toast in Singapore, and the last at BackHome Hostel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We appreciate Pillows and Toast accommodations for our family. They went far...

Life On The Road Saving Money: Unsuccessful Attempt Number 15 for Purple Hair and Other Hair Tragedies- Houston, Texas

Life On The Road Saving Money: Unsuccessful Attempt Number 15 for Purple Hair and Other Hair Tragedies- Houston, Texas

Cuz I don’t make a fool of myself enough. Here my dear old friend Veronica, who didn’t want to be all over the net 🙂 tried to help. I bleached it TWICE and tried, but ended up looking to Cruella D’Ville and my hair was so fried it stood up straight for two months. What I don’t do to my poor hair. At least we can all laugh at me, right? oh, and Mom, sorry I used the kitchen sink for the chemicals. It won’t happen again. I love you OH, and I look like 80+ with a really bad hair-do when it’s done. Definitely saved me money not going to the hair salon. Good thinking there Gabi. Not pretty. At all. But that’s OK, we can all laugh at Gabi in 3, 2, 1… As an added bonus: The poodle hair video (where I bark!) , Gabi cutting her bangs (aka: the disasters that occur when Gabi is bored and there are scissors around), and how I looked...

Back Stage Hysterical Fun With Strait Groove Band from Singapore- Backhome Hostel, KL, Malaysia

Back Stage Hysterical Fun With Strait Groove Band from Singapore- Backhome Hostel, KL, Malaysia

Sometimes, we cry and tell you how miserable we are and how we try to crawl out of it. Sometimes, we admit big mistakes with high ticket prices and bow to learning. Sometimes, we try hard not to judge people making the choices are right for them. Sometimes, we’re having unreal crazy adventures and screaming in foam fights. Sometimes, we’re sharing all the irresponsible, stupid stuff we’ve done that could have killed us. Sometimes, we’re really confused and we’re missing home. And sometimes, we’re jamming with artists and cool people across the globe. Meet Srait Groove and get ready to chill and laugh. This short video oddly recorded on the kitchen table at Backhome Hostel (it was a challenge to get us all to fit into the screen) shows how awesome they are. We love the best hostel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Backhome Hostel, who hosted us for A MONTH, which we will never forget! They became our family, and rightfully so, for they are a family of staff that...

God, Please Tell Me I Didn’t Just Say That- Everywhere,Globe

God, Please Tell Me I Didn’t Just Say That- Everywhere,Globe

Is it worse to refer to your Costa Rica landlord as a prostitute or worse to call your Panamanian host a cow? Would you rather die after you’ve explained to a group of Peruvians how to cook potatoes in urine or after you’re wrongly-translated “Seize the Day” speech to the Argentinian became a sexual invitation? No, wait. Maybe miming that you need vaginal infection cream in Cambodians more God-take-me-away-now than  being cursed out for laughing when that truck driver told Kobi his grandmother just died? And which do you wish you could take back more: the Latin American YouTube video where you refer to his curls as mattresses or Vietnamese one where you explain what you tried to say before you got spit on? Hmmm… It’s a tough world out there when you waltz around with an inflated ego that allures you to foolish believe, again, that you can speak multiple languages. It stings you in the ass, right where you deserve it, when you make a total...
