Gum in His Hair (Again) & Other Ways Orazi Abuses Himself- Carrentals.co.uk, Eastern Europe Road Trip- Turkiye

Gum in His Hair (Again) & Other Ways Orazi Abuses Himself- Carrentals.co.uk, Eastern Europe Road Trip- Turkiye

So we’re into free expression and try to laugh when that expression and freedom flip upside down and splatter all over our faces. We were greatly impressed that no one killed anyone else in the eight hour + car ride we had from Istanbul, Turkiye to Ayvalik, Turkiye and still, the ride was not uneventful. We got to talk Basketball and get lost, flow on the fancy ferry out of Istanbul, and all on the way to The Mother of all Videos in Ayvalik. But one of the highlights in our own little tiny insignificant corner in our family life was Orazi getting gum stuck in his hair- Take Three. The first time- we get it, these things happen. The second time- OK, creativity is his strong point. The third time- “You’re too old to act this way. It must be your father’s DNA!” Now this is not the real abuse sort of be-concerned-for-someone-is-harming-my-child like in Cambodia in the It’s a Good Week Series (Part One: Son- Fondled, Slept-...

Lost and Found & Love is the Key- Macaron Yuvasi Otel, Ayvalik, Turkey, SmallHotels.com.tr

Lost and Found & Love is the Key- Macaron Yuvasi Otel, Ayvalik, Turkey, SmallHotels.com.tr

And in my last post in Macaron Konagi I shared some of the dark clouds of parenting. Sometimes, when you are just not sure you are doing anything right. We got lost. All of us. Got lost in the hubbub of motion and lost the core, which for me right now is simple: health and family. Yes we lost it (as we often do), and then, and then, and then we found it again. That’s kind of life if you think about it, lost and found, lost and found, clear and unclear, know and clueless, and all the hues of laughter and joy, crying and sadness that fall in between. Welcome to Lost and Found, and the answer, that always, always, always Love is the Key.   The Difference Between Feeling Alive and Not Who We Are and Love is the Key This heart from the Macaron Konagi garden says it all. The softness of it all. Any thoughts? Yes, love? Lost and found? Been there? Got out of...

One High-Class Sweet Ferry Ride Out of Istanbul -Carrentals.co.uk, Eastern European Road Trip, Turkey

One High-Class Sweet Ferry Ride Out of Istanbul -Carrentals.co.uk, Eastern European Road Trip, Turkey

So we had to decide the route for our 8 hour ride (which we were sure would take us ten hours+) from Istanbul to Ayvalik, Turkiye. Knowing full well that no amount of chocolate or technology would make this route smooth, we got creative when we found out there was this one little choice. Either drive the entire time or change it up a bit with a nice little ferry ride in between. Genius! Drive. Ferry. Drive. LOVE It! And so, we thought it would just be a nice little distraction, but it turned out to be nice, nice. Nice, nice as in seagulls swarming the boat as passengers laugh and chit chat, throwing crackers and bread crumbs to them. [The fact that this changes their ecological food chain still did not diminish the atmosphere of total gaiety all the same]. Nice, nice as in super fancy little restaurant and rest area including coin-operated massage chair. Nice, nice as in our kids did not whine or fight once the...

Parenting on the Road- Sugar Daddy Debates, Being Normal, & Morality – SmallHotels.com.tr, Macaron Konagi Otel- Ayvalik, Turkey

Parenting on the Road- Sugar Daddy Debates, Being Normal, & Morality – SmallHotels.com.tr, Macaron Konagi Otel- Ayvalik, Turkey

So, we’re in Ayvalik, Turkey and staying in a gardened fairy tale at Macaron Yuvasi Otel. We’ve been in paradises before and felt like hell, or have been in the most exotic oasis and hated home. Most assume that our life is all about butterflies and rainbows, and it is, and it isn’t. Most would assume we spend all day skipping in the butterflied fields with our children and deeply admiring them. And we do, but often we don’t. Do I adore my life style, my blessed opportunity to be a nomad? Yes, yes, yes, yes, and a bit of no. Sometimes I need a vacation, desperately. Do I adore my children to death? I do. But, honestly, sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I’m sick of the whining, I’m sick of pushing, I’m sick of being the bad guy. And while Macaron Yuvasi Otel and Ayvalik, Turkey was, was, was, really, truly, truly a fairy tale, there were those pockets of mini-hell in which we, Kobi and I, looked at...

Another Wish List Dream Come True- Ancient Greek Ruins- Pergamon, Acropolis- Red Basilica Hotel & Cafe, SmallHotels.com.tr, Bergama, Turkey

Another Wish List Dream Come True- Ancient Greek Ruins- Pergamon, Acropolis- Red Basilica Hotel & Cafe, SmallHotels.com.tr, Bergama, Turkey

We wrote a book about making your dreams come true , talked about never giving up on dreams, and have pissed off more than a few friends in making our a reality. We have so many travel dreams and wishes of different shades and colors. Some, like going to Australia and biking across Europe we’re putting on hold. Others, like going back to India for 6 months in 2015 and getting fully in shape and feeling alive, we’re still chugging at. And then there are those dreams that were a sigh, dreams that we said “one day” and didn’t really take it past that for dinner had to be made or someone was crying or there was work to do on the computer. One of those dreams was seeing Ancient Greek ruins. Since hitting the road, we have taken huge strides in investing in our children’s education. We’ve given particular attention that they experience cool things in the ocean like diving with sea turtles in the Philippines or surfing in...

The Best of Pergamon Acropolis & Bergama Turkey [Video], Red Basilica Hotel, SmallHotels.com.tr

The Best of Pergamon Acropolis & Bergama Turkey [Video], Red Basilica Hotel, SmallHotels.com.tr

All of this learning magic was made possible because of Fatih at The Red Basilica Hotel who was kind enough to host us for two nights and Izim at SmallHotels.com.tr who was insane enough to coordinate for us a 5-week tour with the Small Hotels across Turkey. We could never say thank you enough to those who believe in us enough to say, “Yes, come, child. I will invest in your dream,” and to Fatih for believing that man is man (regardless of the flag and what governments try to teach us) and that love is love (regardless of where you come from). Fatih, as a retired international basketball referee who had visited Israel many times, reignited in us a passion for sports which we converted into buying a skateboard and soccer ball in Bergama and using with great family passion. YOu can find them on Facebook here and see our arrival Facebook album here. Should you come to Bergama, we truly hope you stay at the Red Basilica Hotel with Fatih and his staff....

How Cool the Open Road Can Be [Video]- Carrentals.co.uk, Eastern Europe Road Trip- Istanbul to Ayvalik, Turkiye

We fell beyond blessed and grateful to have yet another dream of ours come true- The Eastern Europe Road Trip! And to celebrate the awesomeness of the open road, we wanted to give you the highlights of our longest day on the road. It was supposed to be a gruesome 8 hour+ drive from Istanbul to Ayvalik, and to our surprise, it was delightful! It’s the best of the best moments of being in the car, feeling the wind and feeling nauseous, feeling free and feeling trapped, all wrapped up in that unreal, changing Turkiye landscape. Loved making the video! It is one of those really great ones. Enjoy it!       —————————————————————————————– The Road trip begins with Basketball and Getting out of Istanbul if you’ve like to follow the entire road tripping part of things. And the Turkey experience starts with Murder turned Love Affair, and goes onto The Mother of all Videos.   We have nothing but the deepest appreciation for Carrentals.co.uk for their generous contribution to our Eastern European Road Trip. Should you...
