Great Race Tracks in the United Kingdom to Have an Awesome Driving Experience

Track days across the UK welcome drivers to test their potential and the limits of their cars on professional racing circuits. Racing is a fun way to unwind after a day at work or during a weekend. Whether you are a veteran with a race licence or you are trying racing for the first time, a track day is great way to experience the thrill of racing in a relaxed setting.

Northamptonshire’s Rockingham Motor Speedway

Northamptonshire’s Rockingham Motor Speedway opened in 2001 with the goal of attracting American oval racing to Europe. The circuit can be transformed into 13 different configurations for use by virtually every type of racing car or bike. It is one of only two speedways in Europe that allow for American-style banked racing. Rockingham’s International Super Sportscar Circuit hosts the British Touring Car Championship and other races throughout the year. The modern venue is about a half hour’s drive from Leicester, Peterborough and Northampton.


There are plenty of opportunities to experience racing at Rockingham, including open pit lane days for all drivers. To ensure the best possible experience, participant numbers are managed to avoid queues and overcrowding. Instructors help participant manage the circuit safely so they enjoy their day to the fullest. Car and helmet hire as well as one-on-one instruction is available at Rockingham’s state-of-the-art wet grip facility. There are also evening track days for drivers interested in enjoying up to two hours of track time. For newcomers, taster sessions include a safety briefing that gives you essential information about racing and driving on the track.

Knockhill Racing Centre

Knockhill Racing Circuit in Fife traces its roots to the 1970s when a local farmer transformed his sheep farm into a motorcycle racing circuit. With picturesque views of the Firth of Forth and the Ochil Hills, racers can see the famed Wallace Monument from the scenic venue. Knockhill hosts world renowned events, including British Superbike and British Touring Car races. With challenging twists and climbs, the circuit can be raced clockwise or anti-clockwise. The 1.3-mile (2-kilometre) track is about 30 minutes from Edinburgh and 45 minutes from Glasgow.

Knockhill track days provides a unique opportunity to use your own car or bike on Scotland’s only internationally-recognised race circuit. The circuit hosts full- and half-day sessions and evening events. Each event provides ample track time in a friendly environment. There is no speed restriction so you can test your limits and the limits of your car or motorbike. Advice and instruction are shared by the circuit’s experts from the National Motorsport Centre at Knockhill. The Knockhill Karting Centre also provides a fun place for racers of all ages to speed around a karting track.

Donington Park

Donington Park is the heart of British motor racing. Located near Castle Donington south west of Nottingham, the circuit first opened in 1931 as the first permanent circuit in England. The Grand Prix circuit is 2.487 miles (4.003 kilometres) while the National circuit is 1.979 miles (3.185 kilometres). Donington Park has hosted prestigious events throughout its history, including Formula One’s 1993 European Grand Prix. It also hosts events for the British Superbike Championship, British Touring Car Championship, Superbike World Championship.

Providing a safe venue for drivers and riders to test their abilities, Donington Park organises exceptional track days and driving experiences. Separate track days are run for cars and bikes on the historic track. If you are interested in pursuing racing, rivers and riders also have an opportunity to complete tests from the Association of Racing Drivers Schools (ARDS) and Auto-Cycle Union (ACU). Instructors are also available during most days to provide advice so you can improve and refine your performance on the track.
