First Arrivals, Ayvalik Toasts, & Turkish Survivor- Macaron Konagi Otel,, Ayvalik, Turkey

The sun always shines when new love wraps itself around your soul. For the third time this morning, the sweet woman here at Cumbali Konak Otel in Alacati, Turkey is adjusting the cushions of the outside sofas just so in the sun and I’m thinking how much I adore people doing things because they care. There is just so much love in the world that sometimes, sometimes, I just can’t contain it. I don’t know where to put it, but I’m so grateful that I am basking in it, for that hour, that minute, that second. So grateful.

And so it was in Ayvalik that we had so many beautiful firsts. Our first breakfast at one of the tens of that we had the honor to be invited to, our first Ayvalik toast (which turns out to be a huge cultural thing that we kept seeing all over Turkey, also far away from Ayvalik), and our first exposure to Turkish Survivor, which we ended up being deliriously addicted to throughout out six weeks in Turkey.

Do you really need words when these hot guys and girls and sweating Bay Watch style? When they cry, laugh, compete, hope, and fall hard does language make any difference? No, we fell in love and got excited all the same. Dahnya and I rooted for the blue team, the other three Klafs cheered for the red.

 And That Precious First Arrival

nov 13

Macaron Konagi was our precious first experience with feel in love with Yavuz and Serap and their passion to make this dream come true. They bought an ancient, run-down, dilapidated ruin and turned it, with love and care to heart-warming details, into a little gardened fairy-tale. Should you have the blessed chance to visit to Turkey and come to Ayvalik, we dearly hope you will consider spoiling yourself with a vacation here. Thank you Yavuz and Serap and your loving staff for these four beautiful nights.

Insanely unorthodox, embarrassingly honest, and on her path towards spiritual awareness, Gabi Klaf blogs about her family’s ups and downs in their now third year of non-stop budget world travel. This family of five has lived with an indigenous tribe in the jungles of Ecuador, hitchhiked throughout the world, danced with drunk Vietnamese at weddings, and hiked the entire Annapurna Circuit trek with a documentary film crew in tow. Gabi writes about the untold sides of family travel life, those moments that take your breath away, adventures and mishaps while globetrotting, and how bits of her soul remain in this small town and off the side of that river. She is a guitar-stumming, energy-healing, ADHD wind-loving scaredy cat. Hugely romantic, tantalizingly sweet, and hysterically funny, Gabi Klaf represents a rare Rubik’s Cube of family world adventure.
