Carnivorous Food Porn- Chama Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse- Houston, Texas

I had to find something hole-free, stain-free, and dignified to wear so as not to embarrass that part of my family who actually knows how to hang out with the upper class. No small challenge. Wearing the new 50 rupee (85 cents) scarf from our beloved Shanti pretty much created world peace and stopped the other tragic events about to explode. Scarf  successfully a- pulls the eye away from that one yellowish stain on the torso of the 85 cent second-hand shirt  and b- stops my mother from pursing her lips when she saw what might have been construed as the slightest hint of cleavage. I’m happy, she’s happy. Win-win.

So we needed to pick the best restaurant in H-town for this birthday celebration. I’m wearing a mother-approved outfit that my brother later refers to as ‘gorgeous’ so take this raw foodie anywhere and I am chirping happy.

We end up at the rusted-finish-door-ranch-style-two-year-old Chama Gaucha in Houston.  We ate more mouth-watering meats and had a more joyful evening than may be legal in the South. Super elegant, super delish, super carnivorous food porn. Enjoy!

There is a lot I can say about the buffet with the marinated artichoke hearts, the to-die-for tabuli, and the exquisite salads. There is even more I can say about the melt-in-your-mouth sizzling meats and the hot Brazilian waiter who kept talking to me in Portuguese or Spanish but whatever it is you are saying, keep saying it baby! (He did speak to everyone that way, but do me a favor here and don’t mess up my version of the story with truth, ok?) I think these photos and the sweet interview video at the end of manager Maurico say it all.

The Interview with Manager Maurico

Maurico was kind enough to invite us to celebrate Daniel’s birthday at Chama Gaucha Brazilian on Westheimer and though I think I gained like 2 pounds and totally ignited all the pitta dosha (fire element in Ayurvedic medicine) I am meant to calm, the five of us deeply appreciate that generous birthday celebration and will be back for more and more and more.

Two tiny notes here friends.

1- I’m feeling like a total ignoramus as I asked him if his staff spoke in “Brazilian.” Oh God, Gabi, world traveler you, show a tiny bit of culture and edu-ma-cation girl! [Head bowing]

2- Chama Gaucha is a super busy restaurant and even though Maurico and I sought a more quiet corner in which to do this interview, the sound is not great. You may have to concentrate a bit to hear us over the people and the barmen preparing drinks. Sorry about that loves.

And without further ado….. the interview with Maurico.

Insanely unorthodox, embarrassingly honest, and on her path towards spiritual awareness, Gabi Klaf blogs about her family’s ups and downs in their now third year of non-stop budget world travel. This family of five has lived with an indigenous tribe in the jungles of Ecuador, hitchhiked throughout the world, danced with drunk Vietnamese at weddings, and hiked the entire Annapurna Circuit trek with a documentary film crew in tow. Gabi writes about the untold sides of family travel life, those moments that take your breath away, adventures and mishaps while globetrotting, and how bits of her soul remain in this small town and off the side of that river. Hugely romantic, tantalizingly sweet, and hysterically funny, Gabi Klaf represents a rare Rubik’s Cube of family world adventure.
