My Big, Fat, Drunk,Vietnamese Wedding- The Nomadic Family Budget World Travel Blog
No, we weren’t drunk but God, they were! What kind loving beautiful people! What an honor to be invited! One of the few sober guests who ALSO spoke English explained to me that to honor the bride and groom, everyone gets very, very drunk.
So, we were lovingly (and a tad too aggressively at times) grabbed, danced with, sat down, and invited (peer pressure!) to smoke and drink. My drunk table friends kept filling my beer, which I kept asking Solai to casually pour on the floor so as not to offend. We tried but weren’t cunning enough to pull it off, so I just kept miming that I need to drive the motorcycle home and can’t drink. They all nodded and kept yelling out “YO!” (‘cheers’ in Vietnamese) to another round, and another, and another.
Yes, we appreciated every minute of that glorious invitation.
Yes, we understood why the kids spent most of the time outside waiting for us as we tried so hard to respect the drunk crowd and honor our hosts.
These people were sooooo nice and hospitable, they were. The grooms husband even invited us to come stay in their house, which we almost took him up on.
So did we love it? Yes!
Do we appreciate it? OMG, yes!
Do we just like to show then entire, truthful picture, including the slurring fall-down-ish men holding my arm too strongly? yeah!
The entire drunken and super cool album on Facebook for your viewing pleasure friends!
